The PeerTalks x Work to Ride collaboration merges authentic, peer-led dialogue with the power of equestrian discipline to create a space where Philly youth can grow emotionally, mentally, and socially — from the inside out.
The PeerTalks x Work to Ride collaboration is a structured, therapeutic group experience designed to support youth social, emotional, and personal development through shared learning, peer engagement, and experiential activities. The program combines PeerTalks’ 12-week Life Skills curriculum with Work to Ride’s horsemanship program to create a consistent, supportive environment where participants build confidence, self-awareness, and accountability.
This program is delivered in a group setting and is grounded in the understanding that effective group work requires commitment, mutual respect, and readiness to engage. Participants take part in facilitated group discussions focused on identity, decision-making, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and personal responsibility, alongside hands-on horse care, riding, and barn responsibilities at the Chamounix Equestrian Center in West Fairmount Park.
To ensure a safe and meaningful experience for all participants, youth are screened prior to participation. Screening helps determine readiness for group engagement by considering developmental stage, ability to participate respectfully, emotional regulation, and alignment with the goals of the program. This process supports both individual participants and the group as a whole.
