Peer2You Hosts Second Annual Back to School Block Party in West Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA – August 16, 2025 — The street outside Intercultural Family Services, Inc.’s (IFS) West Philadelphia office came alive on Saturday, August 16, as Peer2You, IFS’s Gun Violence Awareness and Mentorship Program, hosted its Second Annual Back to School Block Party.
The event brought together hundreds of community members for an afternoon of family fun, free resources, and back-to-school support. Peer2You distributed 250 backpacks filled with school supplies to local youth and provided 50 gun lock boxes to families, combining academic preparation with a focus on community safety.
The Block Party was more than just giveaways—it was a celebration of collaboration. Local organizations including Philly Book Bank, God or Guns, ELECT Program (Launch Philadelphia), Kidz In Da Hood Inc., The Enterprise Center, PFCU, and Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School tabled at the event, offering valuable resources and opportunities to families.
Attendees also enjoyed a day full of activities. Cookout Kings / Boost CDC served a massive catered barbecue, while Dylan’s Ice & Treats kept the crowd cool with their signature water ice truck. Kids flocked to the inflatable obstacle course and bounce house provided by Stefunz Inflatables, got creative with face painting, and even received 50+ free back-to-school haircuts from Al the Barber. Raffles and giveaways added extra excitement throughout the afternoon.
The Second Annual Back to School Block Party reaffirmed Peer2You’s belief that when communities come together, families are strengthened, youth are empowered, and safer futures are built.
